A Collaboration in Emerald: The Romantic Art Gallery Proposal

Imagine walking through a quiet art gallery with your partner, admiring the exhibitions on display.

Hiding in plain sight: The ring box displayed as a fine art piece within the gallery.

You stop in front of a pedestal to look at a beautiful, hand-painted porcelain box, appearing just like any other featured art piece in the room.

But as you look closer, and opening the box, you realize it is not just part of the show—it is meant for you.

A moment of discovery: The bespoke engagement ring nestled within its custom-designed home.

My client recently executed this incredible surprise, using a bespoke ring box as a "decoy" art piece to propose to his girlfriend. It was a moment of pure surprise and romance, and seeing my work presented as fine art in such a meaningful setting is a memory I will always cherish.

The Collaboration: Designing for an Emerald

The journey to this moment began when the client approached me to create a piece that would hold more than just a ring.

He had already designed a stunning engagement ring with an emerald stone and shared his design visuals with me so we could coordinate the box perfectly.

After considering several options, his final decision was to customize my signature ring box with the chrysanthemum motif.

My signature ring box - Chrysanthemum motif painted in 24k gold. Designed to hold up to two rings side by side, the ring pillow can be also be arranged to elegantly present a single engagement ring.

This ring box features a radiant gold chrysanthemum motif rendered in genuine fired 24k gold, delicately expressed through flowing, precise lines.

The chrysanthemum - revered as a symbol of longevity, prosperity, and renewal - is the perfect motif for celebrating a couple's new start.

"I set out to look for a unique and bespoke piece that was different from most of the generic boxes out there. When I came across Yuko’s work, I knew instantly that this was what I was looking for. The lines, color schemes and symbolism in her work stands out with such character and the craftsmanship is stunning."

While the original design often features bold black and white stripes, the client envisioned a green that would honor the emerald, which is his girlfriend's favorite stone.

The Bespoke Process

I recommended a deep green with slight blue undertone to best complement the emerald. To ensure the final piece matched the client's vision perfectly, I developed five distinct deep green shades for the client to choose from.

Color development : Finding the perfect harmony between gemstone and bespoke design.

The precision of the hand-painted stripes, layered slowly to achieve a rich, deep finish.

The personalization went deep into the details. The inside of the lid is hand-painted with the couple’s name, initials, and the month and year of the proposal.

"I had a wonderful experience working with Yuko to personalize and purchase the piece I wanted. She is so responsive and patient during the process. She does a tremendous job of guiding and advising on design and color scheme. She goes out of her way to understand what you are looking for (in my case, I sent her pictures of the ring, background on both myself and my partner and how I planned to propose, which she then incorporated into the beautifully crafted piece she created). She is also so responsive and easy to communicate with during the entire process."

A Lasting Impact

This project was a beautiful evolution of my work.

It reminded me that a bespoke piece is never just an object—it becomes a small but significant part of a couple's shared history.

The hand-painted personalization inside the lid marks the date of their new beginning.

先日お手伝いさせていただいた、非常にロマンチックなプロポーズのストーリーをご紹介します。

お客様からのご依頼は、大切なパートナーへのプロポーズのために、彼女の一番好きな宝石「エメラルド」でデザインから特注で作ったリングに合わせた、特別なリングボックスを作ることでした。 何回かやり取りを重ねる中、私を代表する「菊」のモチーフを金で描いたリングボックスをベースに、よりお客様のリングをの美しさを引き立てるため、カスタマイズを加えることとなりました。 元のデザインのストライプの部分を最も相性の良いディープグリーンにするために色テストを行い、お客様のビジョンや理想に沿うものを追求しました。 また、蓋の裏側にはお二人の名前とイニシャル、そしてプロポーズの年月を入れました。

プロポーズの舞台はアートギャラリー。 パートナーの女性は何も知りません。 このリングボックスを「展示作品」の一つとしてディスプレイし、彼女がそれを見つけた瞬間にプロポーズするという、まるで映画のようなサプライズでした。

「二人の記憶に一生刻まれる瞬間の中心的な役割を果たした」という温かいお言葉をいただき、作家としてこれ以上の喜びはありません。 一点ものの制作を通じて、大切な人生の節目に寄り添えることに深く感謝しています。
