For nearly 18 years, porcelain has been my canvas. I have spent my career painting traditional tableware and decorative pieces—objects created with the philosophy that art should always be "meant for the heart." It was this very concept that led to a new inspiration in early 2024.

The Ring that Started it All

The inspiration didn't come from a gallery or a book, but from two rings given to me by my mother while she was still with me. After she passed away, these rings became my Katami (形見)—precious keepsakes that hold her spirit and my memories of her.

I found myself searching for something worthy of holding them. I didn't just want a box; I wanted a sanctuary—a piece of art that could carry the weight of the story behind the jewelry. When I couldn’t find a vessel that felt right, I realized I had to create one myself.

Developing an Original Concept

With an international trade fair approaching in just two months, I threw myself into developing this new concept. I worked intensively to transform traditional Limoges porcelain boxes into specialized ring boxes.

My goal was to ensure the hand-painted designs were not just "pretty," but rendered with the high level of detail and care required for a true sanctuary box. This also presented an engineering challenge; I experimented to find the perfect "fit" for the ring pillow, ensuring that each piece would hold a ring both securely and elegantly. I wanted to create a "tiny gallery" that would not only protect a ring but elevate its beauty.

From Germany to Paris & New York: Ring Box Debut

In September 2024, I debuted this collection at Maison & Objet in Paris. Since then, I have shared my work at exhibitions in New York and beyond.

At every stop, the feedback has been the same: "We have never seen anything like this before."

I appreciated the feedback from visitors complimenting about the uniqueness and the meticulous, Japanese fine-detail of my brushwork. But more importantly, they connected with the concept.

Whether it is for a marriage proposal, a wedding band, an anniversary gift, or a personal heirloom like my mother’s rings, we all have stories that are too precious to be kept in a mass-produced box.

A Six-Year Milestone: Her Completed Sanctuary

Marking exactly six years since her passing, a significant spiritual milestone in Japan (七回忌) - I am writing this article to share with this specific box meant just for her.

I designed this piece to reflect her exact character. The exterior features structured black and white stripes with intricate gold filigree, representing her sensible, noble, and dignified presence.

A closed luxury porcelain ring box with a metallic gold lid and a detailed heart-shaped clasp. The base features black and white stripes with delicate gold filigree patterns. Two vintage diamond rings lie next to the box on a soft fabric backdrop.

Opening the box reveals a vibrant, private garden painted in the lid, capturing her beautiful and kind inner spirit.

Every flower inside was chosen with intention: White Calla Lilies to symbolize spiritual rebirth, Purple Carnations for the enduring love shared between us. and delicate Blue Forget-Me-Nots for eternal remembrance and the purity she held. Creating this ring box has brought me such a sense of fulfillment. Every time I take the rings out or rest them back inside, I feel a sense of joy, knowing I have finally given them the comfortable and dignified place they truly deserve.

My Mission

Today, I continue this work from my studio in Germany, blending my Japanese heritage with the porcelain traditions of Europe. Every box I paint is a tribute to the idea that our most significant milestones deserve to be housed in something as unique and enduring as the memories themselves.

I would be pleased to hear your unique stories and to create a one-of-a-kind vessel for them. (Summary in Japanese)
